Historical Items of Interest

  • Successor to the Kauai Railway Company, founded in 1906.  Principal Activities-hauling sugar and supplies between plantation and port and conducting terminal operations at Eleele Landing.
  • In 1907, Kauai Railway Company began building breakwater, wharf and other improvements at Eleele Landing (renamed Port Allen in 1909)
  • Building supply department established, 1928.
  • Company changed name to Kauai Terminal, Ltd., 1936.
  • Remaining railway operations taken over by trucks, 1947.
  • Company divested itself of terminal (stevedoring) operations, changed name to Kauai Commercial Company, 1951.
  • In 1971, company divested itself of building supply department and concentrated on trucking.
  • Moved to modern facility at present site in Puhi, 1985.
